San Miguel de Allende, a town of that blends the iconic colors of its colonial façades with an endless range of fresh green tones as lush vegetation fills our beloved town durning these rainy months. Today, I greet you warmly from my studio in the center, after a long walk in search of the best recommendations for proudly Mexican design stores and boutiques. I’ve put together a list of some must-visit shops, some, because there is so much incredible Mexican talent that we’ll definitely need more than one article to showcase everything San Miguel de Allende has to offer in terms of design.
Walking through the streets in July is like walking through a dream painted in pinks and ochres and deep jade. The rain leaves everything washed and alive. Doors are open, music drifts from windows, and behind each heavy wooden frame might be a treasure, a garment, a shape, a color, that could only come from here. The boutiques I visited are more than just stores. They are small temples of vision and care, each one carrying the stories of the hands that made them. Some feel like galleries. Others feel like homes. All of them left me inspired and proud.
Here are a few I hope you’ll fall in love with too.

Stepping into MIXTA is like stepping into a kaleidoscope. Everything here is alive with color, texture, and a sense of storytelling that makes you want to touch everything twice. The boutique holds a curated mix of pieces that feel rooted in tradition but never old. I found handwoven shawls, beautifully dyed silks, embroidered details that speak of time and patience. Each piece feels like a little world. And beyond the clothes, it’s also just a beautiful place to be. A space to pause.

INDOOR is art and fashion and sculpture all having a very thoughtful conversation. Created by a collective of Mexican artists, this space is a home for painters, writers, designers, and thinkers. The pieces here feel fresh and a little rebellious. I loved that the lines between art and clothing are constantly blurring. A dress that reads like a painting. A print that looks like poetry. INDOOR made me want to linger, to ask questions, and to carry its stories with me.

There’s a quiet elegance in RECREO that invites you to slow down. The garments are fluid and minimal, often made of linen or cotton, and they fall beautifully on the body. Everything is soft but intentional. The kind of clothes you’ll wear for years and still find beautiful. They feel like morning light and wide windows. If you’re looking for something timeless with soul, this is your place.

San Miguel de Allende’s most iconic fashion destinations, LINA Boutique and Maison LINA, embody the city’s effortless elegance. The original boutique, just steps from Doce 18, offers structured silhouettes, romantic cuts, and pieces that turn every occasion into something cinematic. Across town, Maison LINA, on Aldama 1, carries a more relaxed spirit, flowing fabrics, neutral tones, and a sunlit kind of sophistication.
Founded by Roberto González and his partner Fausto Bautista, both spaces honor the legacy of Roberto’s late mother, Lina. Known across San Miguel for his impeccable taste and theatrical flair, Roberto often transforms into his iconic Catrina during the city’s Día de Muertos celebrations a living symbol of beauty, art, and transformation.
Together, he and Fausto have shaped LINA into a cornerstone of San Miguel’s contemporary style, where fashion meets emotion and every detail tells a story.

This boutique feels like a secret garden. Housed in an old casona, MESÓN MODA surprises you at every turn. There’s jewelry that feels ancient and wild, delicate garments, unexpected home pieces, and even tiny coats for dogs. Everything is playful, eclectic, and full of heart. It’s a place where joy lives. I spent more time here than I planned to, and still felt like I hadn’t seen everything.

Casa R feels architectural. The pieces are curated with precision, and yet the space itself feels warm and lived‑in. You’ll find sculptural fashion, thoughtful ceramics, and beautiful objects that speak to both function and form. There’s a quiet confidence here. I left feeling inspired to live more intentionally, to choose beauty in the everyday.

Hoja Santa is elegance distilled. The palette is soft, the cuts are clean, and everything feels like it belongs in a dream. Their garments are subtle, but not forgettable. You’ll find pieces that speak to a refined, grounded kind of beauty. The kind that doesn’t need to shout. It’s a boutique that feels like a whisper, and it stays with you.

One of the newer additions to San Miguel’s design scene, Casa Rúa has already become a favorite. Their boutique feels like an afternoon well spent: breezy dresses, soft textures, and a palette that lets the natural beauty of each fabric shine. It’s both sophisticated and effortless. A place to find pieces you’ll want to wear over and over again.
There’s so much more to explore. This town is rich with voices and visions, and everywhere you turn, someone is making something beautiful. I hope this little guide inspires you to take your own walk through San Miguel, to wander without a plan, and to discover the magic of Mexican design through your own eyes.
I’ll be back soon with more places to share.
With love,
