Part temple, part time machine; where stone from ancient pyramids meets silver metal, mezcal smoke, and a skyline that feels eternal.
San Miguel’s skyline has a new pulse, and it’s beating from the rooftop of Hotel Casa Hoyos, the design-forward property recently awarded its first Michelin Key this year. Above its terracotta façade rises Tonana, a new bar that feels like a meeting point between ancient worlds and modern ritual.
The space has been completely reimagined, now accommodating up to 100 guests, and every element feels deliberate. The walls are clad in stone brought directly from the same quarries that built Mexico City’s pyramids. Each block was cut and placed by hand on-site, forming a tactile connection between past and present. The effect is striking: it feels like if the Mayans existed in the future, crafting temples from minimalism and light.
Polished silver accents catch the sunset as it dips behind the Parroquia, and fire pits flicker to life as the air cools. Every angle is photogenic, every surface considered. Even the playlist is part of the design: ethereal and eclectic throughout the rooftop, then shifting into original tribal Mexican rhythms the moment you step into the bathroom, where sound becomes a full-body experience.

Tonana’s cocktails bring a bold new perspective to San Miguel’s mixology scene. Each drink balances tradition with innovation, think mezcal kissed by smoke, infusions of cacao and native herbs, and experimental presentations that feel almost ceremonial. The result is a menu that’s as visual as it is flavorful.
Between its views, textures, and atmosphere, Tonana isn’t just a bar. It’s a space of transformation, a sensory altar where the sacred and the stylish coexist. Come at sunset for the fire and the glow, stay until nightfall for the city lights and the sense that something ancient still watches over San Miguel.
For those who move with the sun and the moon, If you haven’t checked it out yet, Tonana is not just a rooftop. It’s the new ritual.
Find Tonana atop Hotel Casa Hoyos, the award-winning design hotel recently honored with a Michelin Key.
