The Pizza Shortlist: Where San Miguel Orders The Best Slice

Cold nights hit different when you add pizza to the plan.

As the weather cools and the craving for comfort food inevitably kicks in, San Miguel’s pizza scene steps into the spotlight. Locals know the routine. You love your tacos, we all do, but some nights call for something warm, crisp, saucy, cheesy, and straight from a wood-fired oven. Good pizza is simple. Fresh ingredients, well-fermented dough, and heat that kisses the crust at the right second.

San Miguel’s pizza world still feels a little underground. You have to know where to look. These spots are tucked in neighborhoods, behind unmarked doors, inside old casas, on rooftops, next to gardens. But when you find them, you realize some of the best pies you have ever tasted are right here in our own barrios. And considering that ingredients like 00 flour and certain Italian staples are not easy to source in Mexico, what these kitchens pull off is impressive.

These are our SAVANT selects for a cozy midweek dinner date or a lazy Sunday post cantina night.

Napoli 39

Francisco Lanzagorta 39, Independencia
3 to 10 pm daily, closed Tuesday
415 268 7918
The vibe:
Cozy, unpretentious, and always buzzing with locals. Napoli 39 sits inside a casa-turned-restaurant that feels like a quick trip to Italy. Expect warm lighting, soft chatter, and the smell of fermented dough doing its magic. This spot has loyal fans for a reason. The prices are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and their dough is so well fermented that even gluten-sensitive folks swear it feels lighter.

Grab a patio table with your pup, open a bottle of wine, or bring your own for a small corkage fee. Split a pizza, order their house salad, and you will leave in a carb-happy haze.

What to order:
Margherita with buffalo mozzarella, Diavola, house salad.
Why we love it:
Simple, classic, and reliable. The kind of pizza that keeps its promise every time. Bring a date or your entire crew. It works either way.

BENNU

Hernández Macías 59
Wednesday to Monday, 3 to 11 pm
@bennusma
The vibe:
Vegetables and pizza are the star players here. Everything comes out of their wood-burning oven that lives on the ground floor of an old hacienda with chipped concrete, exposed brick, and a stylish ruin-meets-garden feel. BENNU has that modern, quietly cool energy that makes it perfect for date nights. You can tell the team here is genuinely passionate about food.
What to order:
Las Cabras. A sweet and savory mix of butternut squash sauce, pear, balsamic, and both fresh and aged goat cheese. Pair it with one of their natural wines or a house cocktail.
Why we love it:
Chic but cozy. Elevated but not pretentious. Their pizzas and veggie dishes are satisfying without leaving you weighed down. Ideal for two to four people who want something a little special.

Neopolitan Pizza San Miguel de Allende

Julián Carrillo 4B, Guadalupe
415 121 7249
Thursday to Monday, 1 to 10 pm
Closed Tuesday and Wednesday
The vibe:
This one feels almost secret. You will find it in Guadalupe, through a small doorway that leads up into the kitchen, followed by a spiral staircase that drops you onto a tiny enclosed rooftop patio that fits maybe fifteen people max. It is simple, serious about its craft, and refreshingly no fuss. Just excellent Neapolitan pizza with a perfect char. The sunset views are a sweet bonus.
What to order:
Four cheese or the salsiccia italiana.
Why we love it:
Consistent, high quality, always delicious. A minimalist approach that works. No distractions, just excellent pies.

Fari Trattoria

Salida a Celaya 5, Centro
415 688 3815
Open everyday from lunch to late, Closed Tuesdays.
The vibe:
Fari does pizza, yes, but they also do homemade pasta, antipasti, and a wine selection that feels like a warm hug. Located on Salida a Celaya, their outdoor dining area is impossible to miss. Picture green checkered tablecloths, warm lights, and a romantic Italian atmosphere that feels both elevated and familiar.
What to order:
Prosciutto and fungi or any of their white pizzas.
Why we love it:
Fari finds the balance between upscale dining and easygoing charm. You can show up dressed for a date or stop in on a whim. The entire menu is executed with care, not just the pizza, so everyone leaves happy.

La Favolosa

Correo 45, Zona Centro
415 179 0866
Open everyday from lunch to late. Closed Mondays.
The vibe:
This is the Centro rooftop pizza spot you have probably walked by without realizing what sits above it. The entrance is a tiny Italian coffee shop on the ground floor. Once you spot the espresso machine and small counter, you are in the right place. Head upstairs and the whole space opens into an easygoing rooftop with one of the cleanest Parroquia views in the neighborhood.

Portions are generous, the menu leans classic Italian comfort, and the pizzas are exactly what you want on a cool evening. It is the ideal early sunset dinner that quietly slips into a late one, especially with the breeze and the glow from the church towers.

What to order:
Their white pizzas, pesto options, or one of the big pasta bowls to share.
Why we love it:
A hidden Centro rooftop with the kind of view people pay for elsewhere. No fuss, no attitude, just solid comfort food and one of the best angles in town.

Il Mercatino

J
osefina Orozco 19, San Miguel de Allende
@ilmercatinosma

The Vibe:
Il Mercatino feels like a tiny slice of Rome hidden in plain sight. It is part Italian market, part neighborhood kitchen, with shelves of imported goods and a small counter where pizzas come out hot and fragrant. The space is intimate and relaxed, the kind of place where you stop by for “one quick thing” and end up staying for lunch.
What to order:
The pizza marinara. Simple, classic, and done perfectly.
Why we love it:
No fuss, no theatrics, just clean flavors and proper technique. It is one of the few places where you can grab pantry staples and a great pizza in one stop.

Bong Pizza

Inside Mercado Bandido, corner of Zacateros and Pila Seca
@bong.pizza
The vibe:
Bong Pizza is one of the standout vendors inside Mercado Bandido on Zacateros and Pila Seca. The space itself feels playful and young, with an energy that comes from the mix of vendors and the steady flow of people passing through. Their oven runs hot, the crust hits that perfect char, and the whole vibe feels like SMA’s version of a cool food hall find.
What to order:
Their white sauce pizza with pistachios and rosemary. It is the sleeper hit that regulars swear by.
Why we love it:
Fun energy, quick service, and a pizza that stands out as a good balance between what else is available at the market, order mariscos as an appi and drinks from the bar.
